The winner of a copy of AT NIGHT is Like Lokon! Congratulations!!
Leave a comment below to be entered to win a copy of my new picture book from Muddy Boots, AT NIGHT!
You can say anything in the comment to be entered, but it would be fun to know if any of you have ever had a memorable encounter with a nocturnal animal. I remember driving home to my mother’s house in Ohio once and seeing a mother opossum running up the hill away from the car headlights with seven or eight baby opossums bumbling along behind her…SO cute.
No purchase necessary! The drawing will be held November 15, 2021 at 5:00 PM East Coast time, and one person will be selected in a random drawing, and I will mail you a book. US and Canadian entries only please. 🙂
THANK YOU for this contribution to the world. I will be buying copies for all the little ones in my life!
Thanks, Jessica! 🙂
My favorite nighttime animal encounter was with a cute possum ambling through my flowerbed!
Possums are quite cool. Did you know they eat their weight in deer ticks every year? Well…I KNOW they eat ticks, and that IS a statistic I have read, but its kind of hard to fathom that many.
Please don’t enter me in the contest! I plan to buy them for the little ones!
You got it! 🙂
This looks like a great book to read to my 3 year old granddaughter. I sent a copy of your Ink Blot book to my 10 year old grandson this Summer.
I have a resident possum living under my deck and a couple of Raccoons come by to eat the leftover feral cat ‘s kibble. One Raccoon is missing a tail and the other has a bum front paw, she’s a mommy and uses her paw to scoop up the food.
I love raccoon sightings. They are such good parents 🙂
I can’t wait to see Margaret’s new book. I love them all and this one is perfect for my little 1-1/2 year old granddaughter.
Hi Jennifer! So nice to hear from you!
We have had many encounters with nocturnal animals, but the most memorable was when my husband let our two dogs out to potty. They both were sprayed right in the face by a skunk. Poor dogs! We smelled skunk for quite awhile after that! Thank you for sharing your talents with us! God Bless you!
Oh, no! There are lots of skunks in the park near our building here in NY. Sometimes people approach them with their dogs because they are SO CUTE, especially the babies, but then of course we know what happens…
I saw a barred owl, perching on a low branch three feet away from me, just watching me move, turning its head as I move in my backyard. And it was during the day too!
I think seeing an owl is so magical. We used to have Great Horned Owls waddle down to our pond in OH and drink water–very ungainly!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.
Thank you! It was a wonderful class. 🙂
I’ve been excited about this book for the longest time, and I know my sweet grandson, Isaac, is really going to enjoy hearing the story & looking at the beautiful pictures at bedtime. I have lots of fond memories of wild creatures at night from growing up in the country, and was happy to experience possum and raccoon antics with my own children despite living in a more developed location. Did you know possum LOVE to munch on grapes at night?
I did not know that about possums and grapes! We also get to see raccoons, skunks and opossum and even owls here in the city. I count it as a tremendous blessing. I read recently that there are beaver on Staten Island!
We’ve heard owls but have yet to see one. LOTS of different kinds of hawks. And I saw a beaver about 4 years ago when driving to work, just south of downtown Dayton near U.D. He was near the river, hopping around…I was amazed! And so big, bigger than my corgi! It really is amazing how nature always seems to be working to take back it’s turf.
That’s totally cool. Did you see the Nature special about beavers? It is totally worth watching. Jaw dropping.
Bats are great for eating mosquitoes. It is a little freaky though when they get into your house. At first you think it’s a bird but after several low swoops you figure out it’s a bat. Don’t call the humane society they won’t help. Trap it in a room. Grab a big towel and capture the bat with towel. Take outside and release. This has happened to me twice.
Yikes. Brave! I love bats, but I agree–I wouldn’t want them in my house. And I suppose they probably wouldn’t want to be in my house, either!
